The Plaza Hotel

On Sunday the female part of the Manhattan VA's surgery team headed over to The Plaza Hotel for a fancy high-tea. Why? Because high-tea is fun and delicious and we've been long overdue for an opportunity to shed the blue scrubs and look civilized again in real-people clothes.

Tea is served in the Palm Court dining room which is a wide open dining area that was never featured in Home Alone 2 Lost in New York. (Yes - it bothered me just a *little* bit that the part of the hotel we were in looked nothing like the movie... but it was fancy nonetheless)

We decided to share three of the different tea combos among the 5 of us: we decided on

1. Chocolate fondu
2. The New Yorker
3. The Fitzgerald

It was a wonderful mix of sweet and savory:

Plenty of pineapple, home-made marshmallow, bananas, strawberries, and even pretzels (!!) for the fondu

Adorable mini fondu pot:

....With maybe a bit more sweet than savory...

But who's complaining?? Not me :D

Of course we can't forget the scones!!! Each combo came with a plain scone and a raisin scone

The savory portion of the Fitzgerald tea combo was served on a Eloise in The Plaza plate: probably unintentional, as they actually serve a tea combo called The Eloise for the young fans of the books who visit the hotel.

Just another reminder of how fun it is to live in NYC though! Everywhere is famous for something

Levain Bakery

Check out this unassuming little guy:

Reported to have the BEST cookies in the city, Christina and I paid a visit to Levain Bakery on the Upper West Side this weekend

My choices included the chocolate chip walnut cookie:

and the chocolate peanut butter cookie:

While labeling them as the BEST cookies in the city might be a bit of an exaggeration, they were certainly pretty good - especially when fresh. Crunchy on the outside, while soft on the inside.

[The chocolate peanut butter one was a bit too sweet though, so you should definitely have some cold milk around if you're going to tackle it]

Don't be fooled by the photographs - those suckers are big. Each one was the size of my fist and could probably feed two hungry little Victorias.

Overall Rating: 7.5/10
